SIMONSIG UNVEILS NEW CAP CLASSIQUE JEWEL WITH
KAAPSE VONKEL SATIN ROYALE

South Africa, Stellenbosch, 2 November 2023; Excellence has a new bubbly ambassador, and it is Kaapse Vonkel Satin Royale by Simonsig. Meticulously crafted and inspired by the captivating spirit of South Africa, this exquisite new Cap Classique is the very essence of celebration, vivacity, and luxury.

Satin Royale joins the Kaapse Vonkel collection as a gleaming new jewel in the crown of Simonsig, a leading producer of award-winning Cap Classique and the country’s pioneer of this wine style. Combining the popularity of Simonsig’s Satin Nectars and the prestigious Simonsig Cuvée Royale, Satin Royale is an exquisite wine that embraces the sweeter side of life.

A very limited release makes each bottle a rare gem, inviting you to savour a truly exclusive experience. Only 1 500 bottles of this first release have been produced.

“I am delighted to introduce Satin Royale to our portfolio, as it stands as a testament to both the legacy and tradition of my grandfather as well as our commitment to innovation,” says Simonsig cellarmaster Michael Malan, whose grandfather Frans Malan was behind the creation of South Africa’s first Cap Classique in 1971. “With over five decades of experience crafting Cap Classique behind it, Kaapse Vonkel Satin Royale embraces Simonsig’s reputation as a pioneer while staying at the forefront of what bubbly-lovers enjoy.

“Following the success of our Satin Nectar wines, Satin Royale takes it a step further, offering something truly exceptional. We celebrate the fusion of innovation and heritage that is the very definition of the world of Cap Classique, a heritage we are proud to uphold at Simonsig,” Michael says.

Overseeing the making of this new creation was Danna de Jongh, Simonsig’s Cap Classique and white winemaker. “Satin Royale is a refined indulgence, specially made for those who appreciate life’s sweeter moments,” she says. “Classified as a vin sec, it strikes a harmonious balance between sweetness and sophistication.

“Satin Royale finds its place on the scale of sweetness between the crisp Kaapse Vonkel Brut and the lusciously sweet Kaapse Vonkel Satin Nectar. It is also a step up from the core Kaapse Vonkel range as it undergoes extended lees ageing in the bottle for at least 36 months, which helps build more complexity and depth.”

In the glass, Kaapse Vonkel Satin Royale unfurls with a bright golden hue and a fine, lively perlage. Notes of freshly baked pastries and caramelisation are complemented by a sweet, autolytic richness with a toasted brioche character. The nose further reveals delicate notes of yellow fruit and white flowers.

The wine offers bold flavours with a smooth, rounded palate. It harmoniously combines depth, a subtle hint of sweetness, and a sense of freshness, resulting in a beautifully balanced, captivating wine which elevates every moment of celebration.

The Cap Classique is made from carefully selected grapes, hand-harvested from the finest vineyards on Simonsig and transported to the cellar in small crates. These grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches to extract the purest juice. Prior to bottling, the wine undergoes rigorous blending and tasting sessions. It is vinified according to Cap Classique’s strict bottle fermentation process and disgorged, after which the dosage is added.

The same care and distinction have been applied to its packaging, making it immediately recognisable. Adorned in the regal colours of royal blue and gold, it incorporates the design of bushveld lilies, an indigenous plant that echoes the Simonsig crest. Known as fleur-de-lis, the insignia was common through the ages and around the world in denoting royalty – a fitting status for Simonsig’s latest sparkler.

Kaapse Vonkel Satin Royale is available to purchase at R600/bottle from Simonsig’s online store and tasting room and is limited to three bottles per person. It will also be available at leading retailers nationwide and select restaurants in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban.
